Importance of the Serve

The serve is the only point in which a layer has complete control. A player with a good serve can win a lot of free points. Also, a player with a good serve can undermine the confidence of their opponent.

I know that playing tennis socially is fun, but it is also great to win matches. Having a good serve can mean that you can win the point outright, maybe without your opponent even touching the ball.

On the other hand, if you have a weak serve and lack confidence in your serve then you will either do more double faults or give you opponent an easy return of serve.

Unfortunately, even though in tennis the serve is the most important point of the game it is also the technique that is infrequently and incorrectly practiced. This is where a good tennis coach can really benefit you.

Most tennis players should learn how to do a really good top spin serve. Being able to do a good top spin tennis serve will mean you will do fewer double faults and will immediately put you opponent on the defensive.

The top spin serve is not a naturally learned serve, but a good tennis coach who understands the correct technique can easily teach you. A really good top spin serve should make it difficult to return.
